Speaker of the Shura Council on Sunday4/2/2007 said that the statement given by President Hosni Mubarak before the joint session of the two houses of Parliament on November 19 was a giant and comprehensive national project that mapped out the future of Egypt.

Speaking to the council as it started debates yesterday on a report by an ad hoc committee formed to look into the President's statement, which Safwat El-Sherif lauded as a social contract in which Mubarak pledged to pursue constitutional and legislative reforms.

The President's statement renewed Mubarak's commitment to comprehensive reforms and to building a more prosperous, safe and stable future for his people.
