Mubarak in statements to Editors in Chief: Egypt's security is crucial for maintaining the development drive.

President Hosni Mubarak on Tuesday 27/3/2007 expressed satisfaction with the level of turnout in Monday's constitutional amendments referendum.

The remark was made by President Mubarak in statements to Chief Editors of the Egyptian newspapers and the Middle East News Agency (MENA) who accompanied him aboard the presidential plane carrying him to Saudi Arabia to attend the 19th Arab summit.

Over 75 percent of voters approved the amendments, an outcome that reflected a keen desire to introduce these amendments.

Touching on a controversy over amending article 179 of the Egyptian constitution and issuing an anti-terror law in place of the emergency law, President Mubarak said Egypt's security is crucial for maintaining the development drive.
