Balloting stations close doors, vote counting begins

Balloting stations in today's referendum on the constitutional amendments, started at 08:00 a.m., closed their doors at 07:00 p.m., except the stations where voters arrived at before the deadline and failed to cast their ballot, according to the decision of Minister of Justice on extending the polling till 09:00 p.m.

Citizens participated in the balloting process in order to give their opinions in an atmosphere characterized by democracy and neutrality by the security bodies which preserved the public order. Some 1,000 judges have supervised the voting.

The referendum process characterized by order and stability which enabled citizens to cast their votes using the glass boxes and phosphoric ink in order to guarantee that voters will not cast their votes more than one time.

The counting process was immediately begun under judicial supervision in order to announce the results within the coming hours by the High Elections Commission under Justice Minister Mamdouh Mar'ie. The commission receives the results, first by first, from different general committees allover Egypt's governorates.

Earlier this evening, Justice Minister Mamdouh Mar'ie ordered heads of general referendum commissions and judges to keep the doors of polling stations open till 09:00 p.m. for voters who arrived at the stations before 07:00 p.m., the date scheduled to close balloting boxes, but failed to vote in time to guarantee the safety of voters and prevent possible stampede.
