Preparations of constitutional amendments referendum continue

Minister of Justice and Chief of the Higher Elections Committee Mamdouh Marie called on the members of the committee to convene today in the ministry which finished preparations for the referendum on the constitutional amendments.

Assistant of Minister of Justice Osama Attawaya announced that the Supreme Council of the Judiciary and the special councils of the State Council and the two bodies of the administrative prosecution agreed to specify the nominees to chair the elections' committees.

Minister of Interior Habib el-Adly met yesterday with the leaders of the bodies in the ministry concerned with following up preparations for the referendum. Referendum fill-in forms will be printed and delivered to the security departments soon, the minister indicated. Casting votes stations, transparent election boxes, phosphoric inks and electors' lists will be prepared on the spot, he added. This is to ensure discipline and facilitate the work of the committee to be under judicial supervision.

El-Adly confirmed that the security performance will rise to the occasion which serves as a historic step in the march of reform. He cited that the security forces will abide by impartiality, yet they will take all legal measures toward any attempt to raise riots or obstruct the referendum process.

On the other hand, Minister of Legal Affairs and Parliamentary Councils Dr. Mofeed Shehab voiced confidence that the Egyptians will announce their support to the constitutional amendments next Monday. Shehab confirmed that the amendments are important step in the history of the political reform in Egypt toward realizing more democracy and boosting the institutions in Egypt.
