El-Baz: Constitution "most important document regulating citizens, state rights"

Presidential Political Adviser Dr. Osama el-Baz said Tuesday that the constitution was the most important document regulating the rights of both citizens and the state.

This came at a meeting with Helwan University students, with the participation of university president Dr. Abdel-Hayy Ebeid, Vice President for Post Graduate Studies and Researches Ahmed Salama and Vice President for Student Affairs Rashad Abdel Latif.

The Constitutional amendments introduced are meant to cope with the political, social, cultural and economic changes in the society, said el-Baz, adding that such changes promoted the issuance of a legislation to keep abreast of such changes, taking into account the majority's opinion.

At the meeting with Helwan university students, the presidential political adviser further stressed the necessity of maintaining emergency laws for fear certain groups could resort to terrorism to express their opinions.

Shifting to the killing of Egyptian prisoners of war during the 1967 war, el-Baz said that Egypt would not keep mum on such matter, stressing the need for collecting all necessary evidence and documents in this regard in order to debunk any Israeli excuse.

Talking about the issue of mines in the Western Sahara, el-Baz said that the root of the problem lies in the cost of clearing those mines, pointing out that negotiations in this respect are under way in spite of non-cooperation of other parties concerned.
