Opposition leaders and representatives in the parliament:
We agree on the mono-day elections in condition of complex constituencies

The majority of the opposition parties in the parliament paid a great deal of understanding to the constitutional amendments proposed by President Mubarak, particularly the Article 88 that deals with the judicial supervision on elections.

They said that despite the negative prints occurred in the last parliamentary elections, the presence of judges in the elections is more acceptable even if there is one judge supervises the compound constituencies as happened in the last presidential elections.

For his part, Dr. Abdul-Moneim al-A'ssar, leader of Al-Khodr Party and the representative in the Shura Council clarified the impossibility to find a judge per election box in case of the one-day elections. The ideal solution in this case is to apply the compound constituencies, as this could help a one judge control the electoral process.

Nagui el-Shehabi, leader of al-Geel Party and the Shura member pointed out that his party supports the establishment of an independent judiciary board to supervise elections. This board is to be headed by Chief of the Court of Appeal with membership of his four representatives and Chief of the Court of Cassation in cooperation with three of his representatives. He suggested that Article 88 would last as it is, but to add a paragraph that provides a judicial supervision on elections by any member of the judiciary board.

Representative of Al-Ahrar Party Mohammed Farid Zakaria confirmed his agreement with the proposed amendments by President Mubarak, but relatively to the Article 88, there is a necessity of direct judiciary supervision on elections. He puts forward that compound constituencies could be done in the one-day elections, as this could organize the deficiency in judges' numbers and fight any doubts that might erupt.

Representative and Deputy-Chair of al-Wafd Party Mohammed Sarhan said that al-Wafd Party has the vision of amending the Article 88 to held one-day election without abandoning the judiciary supervision.
