NCW urges women to participate in Monday's referendum

Secretary General of Egypt's National Council for Women (NCW) Dr Farkhunda Hassan urged Egyptian women to take part in a referendum on constitutional amendments slated for Monday.

Hassan made the remark during a meeting Sunday with NCW rapporteurs in the various Egyptian governorates.

A media campaign has been launched to encourage women to cast their ballots.

Also, reports issued by a parliamentary symposium on the constitutional amendments were distributed to spread awareness among women on the objectives of the amendments.

An NCW political participation committee under rapporteur Mostafa el-Fiqi also convened for talks on means of persuading women to take part in the referendum, as a democratic right and a national duty not related to political or partisan trends.

The meeting was attended by representatives from the State Information Service, the National Council for Youth and the Ministry of Social Solidarity.
